Workshop Presentation Summary

急速に変わりつつある世界、社会環境、ライフスタイルの中で、JSLの意味や役割も大きく変わってきました。また一方で、学習者の動機、学習環境、学習方法なども大きく変化し、教科書をはじめとする新しい教材の要求も高まっています。

この研修会では、まず、そうした要求に答えるために現在開発中の新しい教科書『とびら初級』について、その狙い、特徴、構成、具体的内容を紹介し、続いて、この教科書のフレームワークである「できるシラバス」を支える文法がどのように扱われているかを、新しい観点からの基本設計、今までとは違う文法説明を中心に紹介します。

そして午後のハンズオンでは、新しい文法説明のアプローチを反映した「できる」アクティビティーを各教育環境に合わせて作成します。そして、その際の課題や問題点を一緒に考えます。


Biography of the Keynote Speaker

Dr. Michio Tsutsui (筒井通雄先生)

Prof. Tsutsui is professor emeritus in Human Centered Design and Engineering and the former Director of the Technical Japanese Program at the University of Washington. Currently he is an adjunct professor in East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University, where he teaches Japanese linguistics to graduate students in Columbia’s Summer M.A. Program in Japanese Pedagogy.

Prof. Tsutsui earned a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After that, he taught Japanese and Japanese linguistics at various institutions, including Middlebury Summer School, UC-Davis and MIT before moving to the University of Washington in 1990. At UW, he launched the Technical Japanese Program in the College of Engineering. He directed and taught in the program until he retired from UW in 2015. While with UW, he also launched and directed a distance learning Japanese program for professionals.

Prof. Tsutsui has written a number of books on Japanese language, including A Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar, A Dictionary of Intermediate Japanese Grammar, A Dictionary of Advanced Japanese Grammar, the intermediate Japanese textbook: Jookyuu e no Tobira and its companion workbooks and teacher’s guide, as well as numerous papers and articles on Japanese linguistics, teaching Japanese as a Second Language, and Technology-enhanced Language Learning.

Prof. Tsutsui’s research interests include Japanese linguistics, Japanese for specific purposes, second language acquisition, and technology-enhanced language learning.
