日本語学習者のIntercultural Knowledge and Competenceを高める為の試み

「日本文化が好き」という学習者のために、日々流行っている歌、CM、おどりなどを授業で紹介し学習者の興味、学習意欲を高める努力をされていらっしゃる先生方は多いと思います。ただ、その一方、それらの活動が「紹介」のみで終わってしまい、そのプロダクトやプラクティスの背後にある日本文化を考察したり、日本語習得活動の中に取り入れたりする機会をもたぬままという場合も多いかもしれません。ナショナルスタンダーズの改訂版であるWorld-Readiness Standards for Learning Languagesには、 “Interact with cultural competence and understanding”というフレーズ が新たにつけ加われられ、 “Interculturality”という言葉も最近よく使われています。AACU (Association of American Colleges and Universities)でも15領域の基本学習成果の一つにIntercultural Knowledge and Competence VALUE Rubricが開発されています。知識、スキル（共感、言語・非言語コミュニケーション）、態度（相手に対する好奇心や寛大さ）は異文化理解に必要な要素として米国の高等教育機関でも重視されはじめ、Cultural Competenceを高めていくかが今後ますます注目されていくと思います。この研修会では、まずcultural competenceの定義、解釈について話し合い、異文化理解能力を高めようと過去に行った活動例（「おもてなし」「カワイイ大使」など過去にACTFLで発表したものを含む）とその際に行ったアセスメント、学習者の気づきを強化するストラテジー、今後の課題などについてお話しさせていただきます。午後からは先生方が行っている文化学習を振り返っていただき、最後にどのようにしたら学習者の異文化間の知識と能力を育むことができるかを参加された先生の皆様と考えていければと思っています。

Biography of the Keynote Speaker

カリフォルニア州立大学サクラメント校外国語学部教授。日本語プログラムディレクター。Capital World Language Projectの Principal Investigator。マンガ坊ちゃん（本）、アセスメント、オンライン教育、国際教育についての論文を執筆。APやSAT Japanese などの試験作成委員経験。これまでにOutstanding University Service Awards, Outstanding Advisor Award, Teacher Awardsなどを受賞。
